ARTS‧TECH Exhibition 3.0 – The Lighthouse invites you to journey through Hong Kong’s unique urban memories and visions of the future, while reflecting on the true meaning of “home”

Curated by Joel Kwong and in collaboration with media artist Keith Lam, the exhibition features an immersive installation crafted from neon light and sound art. The work is inspired from the maritime history of Hong Kong and lighthouses, the skyline of Victoria Harbour, and the lighthouse imagery in the works of local writer Shu Hong-sing. From historic lighthouses that guided ships safely home, to today’s soaring harbourfront buildings acting as modern beacons, these city landmarks have always illuminated the night and guided us back “home”— watching over our city and its dreams.

Rising on the harbourfront, the neon “Lighthouse” installation invites you to listen through special designed telephone booths to soundscapes generated in real time by the movement of the waves, experiencing the flow of time and waiting — connecting “sea and shore”, “people and home” and “past and future”.

A series of public programmes will be held throughout the exhibition, including:

  • The Lighthouse Performance: Keith Lam ✕ Daniel Chu: An evocative dialogue between piano and neon instruments, blending art and technology live on-site
  • Documentary Screening & Sharing: Journey into the history of Hong Kong’s first lighthouse at Cape D’Aguilar and hear the enduring 150-year legacy of Green Island Lighthouse guiding generations home
  • Guided Tours: Led by the artists and professional docents, offering an in-depth exploration of the creative inspiration behind the works through sound, light and storytelling
